2022-01-25T12:27:14.691Z

The down jacket brand announces that it is strengthening its ecological commitment by no longer using this material from winter 2023.

Moncler, the famous brand of down jackets, announced on Tuesday that it is abandoning the use of fur.

Until now, it adorned the hoods of certain coats of the brand born in 1952 when René Ramillon, famous manufacturer of mountain equipment and holder of dozens of patents, founded it in Monestier-de-Clermont, at the gates of Grenoble, in Isere.

The last collection using this material will be for winter 2023.

This decision comes at a time when fur is no longer quite on the rise. Of course, the subject is divisive - supporters of the use of animal fur highlighting in particular the ecological impact of alternative solutions, including synthetic versions made from plastic. Last September, the Kering group announced that all of its fashion houses would stop using it, following the example of Gucci (which had abandoned it in 2017). Other houses, such as Burberry and Armani, had also chosen to abandon it.

Last November, a petition launched by PETA explicitly targeted Moncler, hoping to push the brand to abandon it.

In the outerwear sector, which traditionally uses a lot of it for its insulating properties, some competitors had already decided to put it aside.

Thus, Canada Goose announced that it would stop buying new fur in 2022, focusing on recycled fur.

Alongside this announcement, Moncler is launching its second edition of its Born To Protect line which "

reflects the brand's commitment to protecting the planet and creating a better future for all

."

Composed of a variety of low-impact materials (recycled nylon and polyester, organic cotton, more responsible wool and down, etc.), the collection extends this year beyond jackets to include a full range of clothing and accessories. ready-to-wear accessories for men, women and children.

Two other examples of Moncler's ecological commitment, which aims to use 50% sustainable Nylon by 2025, recycle waste related to this material to more than 80% by 2023, or use 100% energy renewable on the group's sites by next year...
