The MTR expected earlier that the construction of Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line would start next year. After that, in 2025, between Kwu Tung Station and Kam Sheung Road, the main line of the Northern Link will be built, adding three new stations, and tending to be constructed by underground driving.

The MTR recently opened an official consultation website for the Northern Link, revealing more details of the Northern Link.

Among them, the newly built Kwu Tung Station has more design pictures and materials exposed. Kwu Tung Station will be an underground station with two floors. The upper floor is the station lobby and the lower floor is the platform. The station exit will be located on the ground. In the future, there will be two main entrances and exits. .

In addition, the main line of the North Loop Line will connect Kam Sheung Road Station on the Tuen Ma Line to Kwu Tung Station, but the website information mentions that the new Kam Sheung Road Station on the North Loop Line is planned to be located next to the existing Kam Sheung Road Station on the Tuen Ma Line.

However, without further explanation on the website, the transfer arrangements will be made after adding a new station at Jinshang Road Station.

If the new Kam Sheung Road Station is constructed separately, it means that when the North Link Line opens to traffic in the future, passengers may have to "walk a few more steps" and may not be able to walk directly across the opposite platform to transfer to the North Link Line and the Tuen Ma Line.

The Northern Link is one of the seven railway proposals proposed in the "Railway Development Strategy 2014". The project includes the addition of Kwu Tung Station on the Lok Ma Chau Spur of the East Rail Line, and the construction of the main Northern Link between Kwu Tung Station and Kam Sheung Road Station, connecting East Rail Line and Tuen Ma Line, and construct three intermediate stations at San Tin, Ngau Tam Mei and Au Tau.

The impact of underground driving on the Northern Ring Road on sites of important ecological value is relatively short-lived

Earlier, the MTR revealed that the Northern Links tend to use underground routes.

MTR further explained the underground driving plan on the website, referring to the relatively short-term impact of underground wiring on the environment, including surrounding ecology, especially sites of important ecological value, and the impact on the development of ground space is also small.

The MTR said that after a preliminary assessment and consideration of various factors, it believes that the underground route scheme is a sustainable development plan for the Northern Link, which can respond to the opinions of stakeholders. Therefore, the underground route will be used as the basis for further development. Technical research and design, and the actual route and station location will be announced later.

Kwu Tung Station has two main entrances and exits

The website also introduces that Kwu Tung Station is an underground station with a total of two floors. The upper floor is the station lobby and the bottom floor is an island platform. The station exits are located on the ground, located on the east and west sides of the station, respectively. The east entrance and exit will be connected. The proposed open space in the center of Kwu Tung North; the west entrance will be adjacent to the future market and public transport interchange.

The Jinshang Road Station on the North Ring Line is built next to the Jinshang Road Station on the Tuen Ma Line

After the completion of the Northern Link, Kam Sheung Road Station will become an interchange station connecting the Northern Link and Tuen Ma Line.

However, according to the MTR consultation website, the Kam Sheung Road Station of the Northern Link Line is planned to be located next to the current Kam Sheung Road Station of the Tuen Ma Line, which will be adjacent to the Kam Tin River, the Kam Sheung Road Station Property Development Project and the residential land developed by Kam Tin South.

If the two stations are of completely different structures, it means that after the completion of the Northern Link in the future, passengers may have to "walk a few more steps" when transferring to the Northern Link and Tuen Ma Line at Kam Sheung Road Station, and may not be able to transfer to Tuen Ma at the same platform level String.
