Preparing for "Alfis" storm: snow will spread to the center, fear of power outages across the country Israel today

Starting today (Tuesday) night, the "Alfis" storm will enter our area, which according to the expected forecasts will be accompanied by strong winds, low temperatures, rain and snow in the Golan Heights and the Galilee mountains.

In light of this, there is today the Northern District Commander in Fire and Rescue, Tafsar Nizar Fares, assessing the situation for all the commanders in the district and at the end of it a presumption to prepare for the storm.

The fire and rescue service is asking the public to observe the safety guidelines for the stormy weather:

◾ Avoid heating the house with spiral heaters that cause fatal fires every winter.

◾ Avoid entering underground levels, elevators and parking lots that may be flooded.

Also, the storm could cause power outages across the country, and the IEC is preparing with increased crews, but notes that in light of the many challenges it should be prepared accordingly.

Oren Hellman, deputy director of service at the Israel Electric Corporation, told Israel Today that "the next two days are going to be different from last week in terms of two aspects: the snow and the winds."

Regarding the underprivileged populations, Hellman said: "We ask the underprivileged populations who have health problems, such as people with life-saving devices, to equip themselves with backup batteries for their devices. In case there are no backup batteries, in such cases one should go to hospitals or MDA."

Jerusalem

The Jerusalem Municipality is preparing for the snow that is expected to pile up tonight, and the possibility is being considered that the corona testing and vaccination complexes will be closed until the storm passes.

The Jerusalem municipality told "Israel Today" that "due to the stormy weather and the high chance of snow, there will be an assessment of the situation whether to open the centers. Notification will be given upon decision."

Zefat

Following the latest weather forecasts and the chance of snowfall and accumulation of snow / ice, especially in the upper neighborhoods of Safed, the education system will operate as a series until 12:00 and after that, school students will continue their distance learning at home.

Mayor Shuki (Yehoshua) Ohana said: "Safed is prepared and ready for 'hybrid' learning and tomorrow we will combine school learning with distance learning. We do not take risks, and with the professionalism of school principals and teaching staff we will use advanced methods that combine frontal and distance learning."

According to the updated forecast data from early morning, snow will start falling in the high central mountains (above 900 meters) tomorrow between 16: 00-14: 00.

In the lower central mountains snow is expected to pile up about two hours later.

Benjamin

In Benjamin, thousands of visitors are expected to arrive during Thursday to ask to reach the snow-covered localities.

The regional council is preparing not only for the usual snow challenges but also for snow tourism.

The Tourism Department today distributes 100 snow sleds in the high localities and invites all the people of Israel to come after the snowfall to enjoy and glide over the thick white layer expected in the area.

The localities where it is expected to snow in Binyamin and pile up significantly are: Psagot, Ofra, Kochav Ya'akov, Tel Zion, Gush Shilo, Ali, Givat Assaf, Ateret, Harasha, Ma'ale Lavona and Givon Hadasha.

Council Chairman Israel Ganz said: "We are prepared for the winter system to provide a solution for every resident who needs us. We are studying snow events and the council's manpower knows how to deal with them in good cooperation with the police, IDF, Netivei Israel and other parties."
