Rat Killing Order | Citizens hand over 104 hamsters, AFCD has killed 98 hamsters, but one tested positive

A staff member of the Little Boss pet shop in Causeway Bay recently tested positive, and hamsters were also found to be infected with the new coronavirus. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department issued a "rodent killing order" and called on the public to bring hamsters purchased after December 22 last year to the department's New Territories South Animals Center, hamsters will be humanely destroyed after being abandoned.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department announced that as of 5 pm today, the public handed over a total of 104 hamsters, of which 98 had been killed and 4 died of natural causes.

Of the 102 hamsters tested by the department, only one tested positive for the virus.

According to the AFCD, as of 5:00 p.m., the public had handed over a total of 104 hamsters to the AFCD for abandonment, and 98 hamsters had been humanely destroyed, and 4 hamsters died of natural causes.

However, the department pointed out that 102 abandoned hamsters have been sampled and tested, and only one hamster was found to have tested positive for the virus earlier.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department reiterates its appeal to the public to hand over hamsters purchased at local pet stores on or after December 22 last year for humane destruction.

Together with the more than 2,000 hamsters killed earlier by the AFCD in the branches and warehouses of Little Boss and the same group, the AFCD has killed a total of 2,327 hamsters so far, and 4 died after being abandoned.

In addition, 159 rabbits, 2 golden hamsters, 38 chinchillas, 81 guinea pigs and 3 white mice, a total of 238 small animals were killed by the chain.

Two more environmental samples from Little Boss and the same group were positive, and five more people were diagnosed in Buddhist Fake Middle School.
