The US authorities stopped nearly 180,000 immigrants trying to enter the United States from Mexico last December, bringing the total number of arrests at the southern border during 2021 to nearly two million, which is a record number of annual arrests.
According to Agence France-Presse, the Republican Party was quick to accuse Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of creating an "unprecedented humanitarian crisis."
"During their tenure, cartels and smugglers thrive, border officials are overburdened, and our communities are less secure," Republican National Committee Chairman Rona McDaniel said in a statement.
The number of immigrants coming to the United States decreased significantly at the beginning of the Corona pandemic, but the pace began to increase in 2020 to rise significantly since President Joe Biden took office in January of last year.
His arrival at the White House was accompanied by a promise of more humane treatment of immigrants, which led to an increase in the number of undocumented immigrants.
