The Russian Defense Ministry announced the holding of joint Russian-Chinese naval exercises in the Arabian Sea under the name "Sea of Peace 2022".
"During the exercises, the Russian and Chinese naval forces carried out tactical maneuvers and trained to search a hijacked cargo ship and free its crew," the Sputnik news agency quoted the Defense Ministry as saying in a statement.
The statement added that a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet, including the missile cruiser Varyag, participated in the exercises from the Russian side. After they were completed, the detachment of Russian warships continued to perform tasks according to the plan for long-range cruises.
A detachment of Pacific Fleet ships had previously participated in the Russian-Indian naval exercises "Pasix" and the Russian-Iranian-Chinese naval exercises that took place a few days ago.
