Best Overall Electric Kettle:

Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp Cordless Electric Kettle (

 USD$74 or

 MX$2,495)

The sleek Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp Cordless Electric Kettle is an easy-to-use electric kettle that has the best combination of capacity, features, and control, with helpful temperature settings and audible cues to indicate the start and end of your heating cycle. , features that other kettles lack or don't handle as easily.

This 1.7-litre electric kettle heated up faster than others of similar capacity (and just as fast as many smaller kettles).

The only flaw we could find is that the Cuisinart is probably not suitable for people hoping to make well-extracted pour-over coffees or tea that requires precision pouring, as the water outlet is wide and robust.

  • How to make the perfect cup of pour over coffee, according to the experts

We appreciate the simple and functional design of the Cuisinart far above its competitors.

When turned on, the control panel (with six temperature settings, a start button, and a keep-warm function) lights up.

The capacity gauge, elegantly hidden behind its handle, is also illuminated with blue light, so you can easily see how much water has been added.

At the beginning and end of each cycle, the Cuisinart Kettle beeps, conveniently indicating that heating has begun and finished.

The

keep-warm

setting remains active for 30 minutes.

These features, little touches in themselves, add up to a product that feels more useful than the other kettles we tested.

The Cuisinart was one of the fastest electric kettles we tested. It was heated to boiling point at full capacity in just under 6 minutes. Many competitors of similar size took more than ten minutes to warm up. Although it sounds like this might not be a big deal, the speed is noticeable at times when you're looking for hot water right away. Plus, the larger capacity is ideal for situations where more people will be using the kettle, whether it's in the office or serving a house full of tea drinkers. We also found the temperature settings to be accurate overall. When the keep-warm setting was turned on, the Cuisinart would occasionally heat up slightly above the dialed-in temperature setting, but otherwise we had no problems.

While certainly not a deal breaker, the Cuisinart's large, blunt, wide spout may disappoint people who regularly drink pour-over coffees, or otherwise require a slower, more precise pour.

We had no problem using it to dispense water into cups in general, but you can't pour it as slowly and carefully as you can with a gooseneck kettle.

The best electric gooseneck kettle:

Willow and Everett Gooseneck Electric Kettle (

 $59.99 or

 MX$1,735)

The Willow & Everett Gooseneck Electric Kettle was one of the best electric gooseneck kettles we tested and was easily the best among them.

This kettle was easier to use than many others we tested, with settings that were intuitive and straightforward.

The heating element is one of the fastest we tested, with one of the highest degrees of accuracy.

Also, the design of the heating element and the gooseneck itself are clean and will look good displayed on a kitchen counter.

  • The best coffee grinders to buy in 2021

The Willow & Everett comes with the features you'd expect from a high-performance kettle, including five preset heat settings and a keep-warm function of your chosen temperature for up to half an hour. Like the Cuisinart, each preset temperature displays a legend describing which beverage it's best suited for. We prefer the Willow and Everett preset temperature settings because they allow us to brew drinks without the hassle of dealing with the more granular settings available on more customizable kettles like the Fellow Stagg.

Although with a capacity of just one litre, this kettle is smaller than many others we tested, it was also quicker to heat up and its temperature settings were more precise.

The Willow and Everett heated the water to less than a degree from their stated setting in each test.

Also, it fully heated the maximum water capacity (1L) in about 5.5 minutes, which was one of the fastest we tested, even among other small-capacity kettles.

We tested a number of gooseneck kettles for this article and this one provided the best combination of features, value, and aesthetics.

Other models, across the price spectrum, offered far fewer features, didn't have variable temperature settings, and were generally slower to heat up.

The best budget electric kettle

Hamilton Beach Glass Electric Tea Kettle (

 USD$19.60 or

 MX$770)

If you're on a budget or just looking for a kettle to get your work done and don't need multiple temperature settings, the Hamilton Beach Electric Glass Tea Kettle is a great option.

The main asset of the Hamilton Beach is that it heats the water more quickly than its competitors, but it costs half the price of most of the ones we tested.

It also looks better than most others in the price range, with a clear glass pitcher.

The Hamilton Beach's controls are simple: an on/off button and a hinged lid.

  • A guide to preparing meals and the articles that will make it easier

The Hamilton Beach only has a one-liter capacity, about half that of our top Cuisinart pick, but it heats up faster than any other kettle we tested regardless of capacity, taking a hair over 5 minutes. to heat a full liter to boiling.

The design and quality feel of this kettle is also decent for its price.

Its glass construction is attractive, with volume measurements marked on the side of the carafe.

The Hamilton Beach has a hinged lid that is released by pressing two buttons on each side and manually lifting it up.

Although the construction of the lid felt a bit clunky, we appreciate that it's integrated and won't get lost.

This pitcher lights up with a ring of blue lights around the bottom when turned on.

The lights turn off when the heating cycle is complete instead of any audio signal.

It has a curved, pointed spout that pours water precisely, dispensing one of the thinnest streams of water of any non-gooseneck kettle we tested.

While not as easy to control as a gooseneck kettle, it is adequate.

Overall, while the overall build and design may not match more expensive kettles, The Hamilton Beach more than makes up for any shortcomings by being one of the most effective kettles we've tested, one that works well and is satisfying to use.

The best electric kettle to splurge on

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Kettle (

 USD$149 or

 MX$6,156)

If you're looking for a top-of-the-line kettle that offers the finest control over temperature, quietest performance, and the best looks of anything we tested, the Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Gooseneck Kettle is the best choice.

This kettle is not for most people.

But for those who are particular lovers of the temperature at which they brew coffee or tea and appreciate the ability to adjust the temperature in single-degree increments, the Fellow is worth the investment.

Along with that adjustability, you get a hot hold/keep setting and the ability to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit readings.

The Fellow wasn't the fastest kettle we tested, but it worked well, heating water to a boil in about 6 minutes. It was also quieter and gave off less steam than any other kettle we tested. While some kettles were very loud and steamy during their heating process, the Fellow was almost silent, a sort of jet-black water-heating spaceship. It also has a keep-warm function that stays on for 60 minutes, one of the longest of any we tested.

Of course, a big part of the appeal of this kettle is that its appearance will please design-minded users. The kettle itself comes in nine finishes. Unlike other kettles, the Fellow Stagg EKG sits on a minimalist square heating element marked by two perfectly integrated circles. The leftmost circle is a small digitized display that shows the temperature setting in the metric of your choice (Celsius or Fahrenheit). During heating, it shows what temperature the kettle has already heated the water to, and after heating, it shows what temperature the remaining water is. The circle on the right is a knob that turns the kettle on with a tap and then turns to adjust to the desired temperature.Along the back of the heating element are two switches: one activates the keep-warm functionality, and the other toggles between temperature metrics (Celsius or Fahrenheit).

The Fellow Stagg EKG's handle and spout sit at slightly different angles than most other gooseneck kettles we tested, but it's nice to use and handles comfortably.

It gently poured hot water at a slow, but even rate, perfectly suited to making pour-over coffee.

We had some issues with the spray initially, but found that keeping the vent holes in the cap pointing towards the handle allowed the water to flow through smoothly.

  • How to make compost at home and what are its benefits, according to experts

While we hope to see more user complaints from an expensive item like this, we did notice that some users reported that their ELECTROG Fellow Stagg kettles have completely failed, out of the blue, after only a few months, while others found failures or faults. on the temperature display.

That said, the kettle is covered by a one-year warranty.

How we test

We tested each electric kettle by filling it to its maximum fill line and bringing it to a boil.

We looked at how long each kettle took to boil when filled to capacity, and checked the temperature of the water using a probe thermometer immediately after each heating cycle was complete.

For kettles that had multiple temperature settings, we tested each level individually, filling the kettle with cold tap water each time and measuring the temperature of the water immediately after the heating cycle was complete.

We also tested the keep-warm setting on kettles that had one waiting around ten minutes after initial heating, and periodically checking the water temperature with a probe thermometer to check consistency.

Beyond functionality tests, we also evaluate the following:

  • Design:

We evaluated how the kettles looked and noted if there were any features or placements that were particularly pleasing or frustrating.

  • Alerts:

Did the kettle have any visual or auditory cues to indicate that the heating cycle was complete?

How did they compare to other models, and were the signals helpful or just annoying?

  • Ease of pouring:

For gooseneck kettles, we tested the pour over coffee yield over a Kalita Wave to determine pour consistency.

For standard design kettles, we noted how smooth or choppy the stream of water coming from the kettle was, and whether it splattered when pouring.

  • Ease of cleaning:

While this wasn't an issue for most of the kettles we tested, we did take note of any design flaws or construction quirks that might make it easier or more difficult to keep the kettles clean.
