London Police announced today (Tuesday) that they are investigating a "number of incidents" of parties at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official residence, allegedly made in the past year while the country was under closure.
The uproar surrounding Johnson's "party affair" continues, after it was revealed that he violated the rules his government ordered and held a number of parties with his aides.
"I can confirm that the police are now investigating a number of incidents that have taken place on Downing Street and Whitehall in the last two years, in relation to possible violations of the Corona regulations," local police chief Cressida Dick said at a news conference.
The British prime minister responded by saying during a parliamentary debate that he: "I welcome the police's decision to conduct its own investigation."
As you may recall, another embarrassment occurred on Monday after a Johnson spokesman revealed that the leader had spent another party during the first closure period in honor of his birthday in June 2020. The Conservative leader initially denied the allegations but was later forced to admit his actions.
Today he is fighting for his political life in light of a streak of affair that threatens his tenure, while public pressure on him to resign is growing and public opinion is plummeting to unprecedented lows.
However, he clings to his chair and shows no signs of retiring.
"Millions of people are struggling to pay the bills, but Boris Johnson and his government are too busy in the scandal to do anything about it," said Angela Reiner, number two in the Labor Party.
"Boris Johnson is a national distraction. Conservative MPs need to stop supporting him and he should finally do the decent thing and resign," she concluded.
