Wartenberg – The fruit and horticultural association in Wartenberg is on the verge of a turning point: after 20 years at the helm of the association, chairman August Groh is preparing to retire. It is still unclear how this transition will take place. In an interview with the local newspaper, the chairman explained: "Something new has to come in."

As far as possible new management personnel are concerned, Groh is keeping a low profile, he does not want to put pressure on potential candidates.

"I'm in contact with quite a few people," he says.

"And then we will consider together how we will position ourselves in the future." Groh does not rule out a change in the articles of association with the aim of increasing the size of the board as a whole in order to spread the work over several shoulders.

The decisive meeting should take place in the spring, even if Groh can only say that with reservations due to the corona.

The fact that the legislature has created the possibility of holding such meetings online is irrelevant for the association.

"It's a significant part of an age group here that just doesn't do it."

When asked what's coming up in 2022, the chairman becomes more specific. The war memorial project will be continued and completed in March or April. As reported, the association works closely with the market community and the parish council. Trees are also to be planted again, once more in the Steyrerfeld. “There are plane trees that just got too big,” says Groh. That is why these would be replaced in close coordination with the market community, which, like the war memorial, procured the planting material.

This cooperation is also announced for the continuation of the park bench campaign. As part of this, not only were two more benches sponsored, but locations were also found. "You just have to talk to people," says Groh, who mentions the Volksfestplatz area as one of the locations. There is a sponsor for this that is known throughout Wartenberg, but the chairman does not want to make it public yet. However, as soon as the situation allows, they want to make “a big fuss” about it.

Hard physical work is also ahead of the active people: According to Groh, the pollarded willows on the Kaisergraben can only be cut during the frost period in order to avoid crop damage.

Our newspaper still wants to know whether there will be "groh kisses" again.

The chairman says with regard to the crocus planting campaign: "The new board should then decide how we continue." klk
