The trial of ten men from the Turkish community, sent back to the Seine-et-Marne Assize Court for the death in 2018 of a Kazakh worker in a punitive expedition, was suspended from its opening on Tuesday January 25 due to the Covid-19 of the main defendant.

The trial “

will not be able to take place today given that an accused is missing, detained in the Meaux remand center, and contaminated by Covid-19

”, declared the president of the court after a long consult with lawyers.

As a result, the hearing will not resume until Tuesday, February 1.

Unable to extend beyond February 8, the trial is likely to be postponed to a later session if the schedule proves too dense, warned the president.

Punitive Expedition at Ten

For this tragic confrontation between immigrants, in a case where underground economy schemes, injured egos and a confused night scene leading to the fatal stabbing intersect, ten defendants aged 26 to 45 are sent back to court for violence in assembly resulting in death without the intention of giving it.

Justice accuses them of having participated on October 27, 2018 in a punitive expedition intended to avenge the slap given by the Kazakh worker to his Turkish works manager, who was slow to pay him a debt.

In an altercation outside the victim's home, the Kazakh was stabbed to death by his employer, who claims to have stabbed him in self-defense.

The ten defendants, eight of whom appear free, incur up to fifteen years of criminal imprisonment.
