"I feel a certain online fatigue": VHS Nord presents new program

New semester, old difficulties: Even when creating the program for spring and summer, the VHS Nord has to pay attention to Corona requirements.

– There were times when those responsible at VHS Nord were more looking forward to the start of the semester. The extreme corona numbers, difficult conditions and the hope for warmer months accompany the spring/summer semester program of the adult education center for the municipalities of Garching, Ismaning, Unterföhring and Unterschleißheim.

"The situation is anything but pleasant," says Lothar Stetz, head of VHS Nord.

An end to the valid conditions with general 2G (vaccinated - recovered) and in the movement area 2Gplus (vaccinated - recovered with test or boosted) is not in sight in view of the violent number of infections.

Basically, the head of the VHS states that the majority of regular users can meet these conditions.

However, Stetz also knows that some people are currently behaving very cautiously.

"It's not that easy to register for an event these days," says the adult education center director in view of the building wave, "but we would like to see the courage of the people."

Approximately 38 330 hours of instruction

In terms of courage, the adult education center in the north of the district has made advance payments and has put together an impressive program with 1,410 planned events and around 38,330 hours of instruction.

This also includes 159 lectures, most of which she organizes in a hybrid way with the face-to-face offer and digital participation.

Anyone who fears the rapidly increasing corona numbers can also take part in large parts of the program from home.

Lothar Stetz sees this new option of the educational offer in two ways: "We now have a large database on our YouTube channel, but I also sense a certain online fatigue among users."

VHS Nord is now hoping for an early peak in the omicron wave, which quickly ebbed away in other countries after a few weeks.

These signs and the view of spring with warmer temperatures give the adult education center hope that it will be able to take further steps back to the old normal in the summer.

The VHS Nord program is currently distributed in the four member municipalities with a circulation of 55,000 copies.

Language courses, photography courses or a subscription to 159 lectures for 30 euros can be booked there.

Of course there is also a wide range of dance courses, health and sports offers.
