In a forest near Augsburg, a "giant tumble of creatures" suddenly hops onto the snow-covered forest path.

It's not the first kangaroo incident in the region.

Augsburg - It was an encounter that no one would expect in a forest in the Augsburg district.

On Sundays, Bernhard Regele (63), who comes from Ustersbach, drove with his wife Julianna Mittensteiner (61) to Mickhausen, where it is nice to go for a walk.

And the two dogs, the husky Wolfi and the dachshund lady Ella, were also very excited.

The air was wonderfully clear over the snow-covered forest path, "but suddenly I saw something dark on the side," Regele remembers - and that Julianna Mittensteiner said: "It looks like a big kangaroo!"

The marsupial hopped onto the path in front of them, sniffing the snow, looking directly at the pair without fear.

The dogs, which were expected to react, “were perplexed.

They just stared ahead at the kangaroo, they were stunned," says Regele, who runs a travel agency and who documented the exotic encounter with several snapshots.

Kangaroo discovered in the forest near Augsburg: how did it get here?

After about two minutes, the kangaroo jumped away, out of sight, but not in a hurry, but more leisurely, like in slow motion, and yet full of strength in its legs.

And it left the couple with questions: how does a kangaroo get here?

Whose is this?

Does it get any food at all?

In any case, Julianna Mittensteiner had noticed that it was "a giant tumble of creatures".

It was significantly larger than the small wallabies from the zoo that she otherwise knows.

In any case, the meeting was a pleasure for both of them.

Bernhard Regele: "That was just great!"

The dog is amazed!

No such hopper is missing in the room at the moment, but a free-living kangaroo has been roaming around in the area for some time.

Last April, for example, a Skippy was sitting on the side of the road near Schwabmünchen, and it was also photographed.

"It observed what was happening and then hopped on at some point," reported Martin Geiger at the time, who saw it in front of him while taking a walk.

And a hunter also reported a sighting, that was in the summer, there is also photo evidence of that.

In Delmenhorst, on the other hand, a kangaroo caused a police operation in the middle of the night.

Not the first kangaroo sighting in Augsburg - indications of its origin

Possibly, as reported to Bernhard Regele, the hop is a Bennet kangaroo.

These animals also live on the island of Tasmania.

In the southern state, it snows at high altitudes and is often cold due to its proximity to Antarctica.

Thus, the mysterious snow kangaroo should also survive the Swabian winter, as long as it finds enough to eat.

Kangaroos are vegetarians - grass, leaves and tubers are on the menu.
