50 years of the Royal Oak: the Jumbo in Extra-Thin mode

NEW - The Swiss manufacture presents the new generation of its iconic Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin 39 mm, powered by an extra-thin movement.


It's historic: for the first time since 1972, the Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin model features a new hour, minute and date movement, caliber 7121, which marks the start of the new 16202 line. This mechanism replaces the famous caliber 2121, the thinnest automatic movement of its generation with central rotor and date indication (3.05 mm), first introduced in the Royal Oak collection in 1972 and which retired at the end of 2021.

When it was launched in 1972, the Royal Oak designed by Gérald Genta played the iconoclasts.

Its large hand-finished steel case, its octagonal bezel secured by exposed hexagonal screws, its highly stylized integrated steel bracelet and its ultra-thin automatic mechanism initiated a new era for Haute Horlogerie.

Quickly, this top-of-the-range sports watch was nicknamed “Jumbo” because of its 39 mm diameter, considered disproportionate for the time.
