Astronomers have revealed that a rocket launched by SpaceX is heading to collide with the moon after it has been randomly orbiting in space for years due to the loss of control.

And the British newspaper, “The Guardian”, reported that this missile was launched from the US state of Florida in February 2015 in order to send data about space weather over a journey of one million miles.

This missile was already able to accomplish the required task. In the second stage, it malfunctioned, and there was no longer enough fuel in it to return to the Earth's atmosphere, and there was no longer enough energy in it also to be able to infiltrate the gravity of the Earth and the Moon.

Experts estimate the rocket's weight at four metric tons, which is known as space junk, and is believed to be on the way to colliding with the moon at 2.58 kilometers per second within weeks.

The newspaper pointed out, according to the explanation of space scientist Eric Berghi, that when these factors came together, the rocket had been making a random path in space for years.

In turn, researcher Bill Gray, an expert in observing space objects, said that the upper platform of the “Falcon 9” rocket may collide with the remote part of the moon on the fourth of next March, adding that this expected collision will be the first time that space debris collides with the surface of the moon.

"We will not be able to monitor this incident from planet Earth," he said.
