On a meadow south of the railway line in the direction of Geltendorf in Türkenfeld, a project developer wants to set up an open-space photovoltaic system.

Türkenfeld – The municipal council has no fundamental objections.

However, the panel said no to another targeted area north of the railway.

There is a berry plantation there that would have been pushed out by the solar panels.

Agri-Photovoltaics (Agri-PV) is the name of the concept that Fred Garside, Managing Director of MSE Solar GmbH, tried to make palatable to the local council.

It describes the simultaneous use of land for agricultural purposes and regenerative energy production.

It's not just about sheep grazing between the solar panels.

It should also be possible for useful plants to continue to grow under elevated modules.

In this way, the area efficiency is increased and the PV output is expanded without losing fertile arable land.

Not possible on berry plantation

However, this type of mixed use cannot be implemented for the Türkenfeld berry plantation, as the operator had informed the municipal council in advance.

Blueberries are mainly grown there for self-picking.

The PV system would deprive the fruit of the necessary sunlight.

In addition, it would not be possible for families with children to safely pick the berries in the vicinity of the technical systems with high voltages.

The majority of the municipal council agreed with these arguments.

From the point of view of the committee, a PV system is basically possible south of the railway on a property on the so-called Alter Brenner, a connecting road to Geltendorf.

The area is about 40,000 square meters of meadow, which is of minor agricultural importance.

Since the location is relatively close to the site and potentially visible, the investor can imagine developing a greening concept together with the affected citizens.

The project is now to be further examined.
