The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, confirmed that the US administration is doing everything in its power to reduce the number of Russian diplomats working in the country.
Russia Today quoted Antonov as saying: “The Americans are doing everything they can today to limit the Russian diplomatic presence in the United States,” noting that there are two Russian consulates still open in Houston and New York, but they are unable to work in reality, as there are no diplomats and employees.
Antonov explained that the consular section of the embassy in Washington had to undertake the bulk of the work to provide consular services to Russian citizens and foreigners, and that when the Americans expelled 24 diplomats in the first expulsion, visas were granted to half of the diplomats who were to be replaced.
The Russian ambassador added that the US State Department informed the Russian diplomats that the ambassador would have to leave by April if Moscow did not fulfill Washington's demands regarding granting entry visas to the guards of the US ambassador in Moscow, pointing out that there is no progress in the issue of diplomatic property or granting visas and developing relations. the worst.
Antonov concluded that nothing has been done to normalize the work of diplomatic missions, noting that another group of Russian embassy employees is leaving the United States today with their families due to the American side restricting the diplomats' work on American soil to three years.
