.

The facts took place in the Keranroux and Bellevue districts.

There were no injuries but the drivers are "

shocked

", explains to our colleagues the CFDT, the majority union at Bibus (the transport network of the metropolis of Brest).

The service was stopped on Tuesday evening and public transport will stop circulating in the metropolis from 8 p.m. this Wednesday, January 26, according to the union.

The bus and tram transport service had already been suspended in Brest on Sunday January 23, after urban violence that took place overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

This interruption followed “

incidents that took place (Saturday) evening on the public transport network and affecting the safety of Bibus employees and travelers

”, then specified the public transport network on its website.

A guerrilla scene

Luc Daniel, CFDT union representative of Bibus, had reported a “

guerrilla scene

” in the Pontanézen district in Brest on the night of Saturday to Sunday, specifying that the employees were exercising their right of withdrawal. On Saturday January 22 around 11 p.m., a tram was stopped by barriers placed on the track and then targeted by fireworks, without causing injuries, according to the sub-prefect of Brest Jean-Philippe Setbon.

The passengers present in the tram were then taken to their destination by bus, then clashes broke out between around twenty hooded and masked people and the police.

A bus shelter had been damaged and a Bibus service vehicle burned.

Calm had returned after an hour.

Two vehicles were also burned in the same neighborhood Thursday, January 20 after the arrest the day before of eight young people during a search operation for narcotics.

In a press release issued this weekend, the PS mayor of Brest, François Cuillandre, had "

strongly

" denounced the events that took place during the night "

probably in reaction to the arrests made this week

".

"

It is not acceptable that twenty individuals block a public service, which allows the inhabitants of this district and all the inhabitants of the metropolis to move freely

", had estimated the mayor.

François Cuillandre had also said to bring his "

support to the police forces and the firefighters who intervene in difficult conditions and who see themselves more and more targeted in their interventions by fireworks mortars diverted from their use

".

"

It is not acceptable that this type of material is so easily available to offenders in all cities of France

," he added.
