Dear friends and citizens:

Hello everyone!

The Chinese New Year of the Tiger is coming. On behalf of all my colleagues in the Liaison Office, I would like to wish everyone in front of the screen and the general public of Hong Kong an early year!

The past year was a year when the country's "two centenary goals" converged.

The world has undergone profound changes unseen in a century and the COVID-19 pandemic is intertwined. The rule in China is in stark contrast to the chaos in the West.

The Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people to achieve the first centenary goal on schedule through long-term struggle, and build a moderately prosperous society in all respects on the Chinese land.

A persevering and prosperous China tells us that the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered an irreversible historical process.

The past year has been a year in which Hong Kong has opened up a new phase of "One Country, Two Systems".

With the in-depth implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong, the revision and improvement of the electoral system, and the successful holding of two important elections, the principle of "patriots ruling Hong Kong" has been implemented, and Hong Kong's climate has changed.

I can't forget the festive and warm atmosphere on both sides of the Victoria Harbour to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China; I can't forget the scenes of the election committee and the Legislative Council elections, candidates comparing their political platforms, putting on a street stand, and interviewing voters; I can't forget the primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, children I started to pay homage to the five-star red flag every day, and I will never forget that I and my colleagues from the Liaison Office boarded fishing boats, walked cage houses, visited merchants, and visited neighborhoods.

A Hong Kong that has gone from chaos to rule and opened a new situation tells us that all anti-China and Hong Kong forces that want to disrupt Hong Kong will never succeed.

Friends and citizens!

President Xi Jinping pointed out profoundly, "History is a mirror that illuminates the reality and the future."

At present, the practice of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong has stood at a new historical starting point. To answer the major questions that have long been concerned by all walks of life and the general public on the way forward, we especially need to gain wisdom and strength from history.

Someone asked, what do you think of the "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong?

I would say that the extraordinary journey that Hong Kong has gone through since its return is enough to give us historical confidence in "one country, two systems".

President Xi Jinping pointed out on several important occasions that "one country, two systems" is feasible, achievable, and popular.

In the past 25 years, despite the impact of major epidemics and economic crises, and the severe situation of "black violence" and "speculation", although there are always people who try to lead democratic development astray, there are always people who never give up and mess up Hong Kong, but in China Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party and the firm support of the mainland of the motherland, Hong Kong has not only withstood, but also stood firm. The dust and haze of the "Pearl of the Orient" has been washed away, and the charm of the city is even greater than before.

Looking back on the way we have traveled, those who sing badly about "One Country, Two Systems" have never achieved their wish and those who undermined "One Country, Two Systems" are unpopular.

Facts have proved that the "one country, two systems" principle founded, developed and defended by the Communist Party of China is good, and the path of common development and common progress with the country is right. Hong Kong compatriots who are the masters of their own country will do it!

Someone asked, what do you think of the development prospects of Hong Kong?

I would say that the future is full of hope, and the key is to have a historical awareness of firmly integrating into the overall situation of national development.

Hong Kong's development faces challenges, and if we fail to advance, we will retreat.

However, it should also be noted that Hong Kong's unique advantages still exist, its competitive strength is still strong, it has still achieved recovery growth under the impact of the new crown epidemic, and its global competitiveness ranking is still high.

More importantly, the world's opportunities lie in China, and Hong Kong's opportunities lie in the mainland.

In the new era and new journey, the central government pays more attention to the special advantages and unique role of Hong Kong. A series of strategic plans have "Hong Kong's role", and the "interfaces" for Hong Kong to integrate into the overall development of the country are constantly increasing.

Those pessimistic sentiments lamenting the weakening of Hong Kong's role and those indecisive foot-binding behaviors will only make Hong Kong miss opportunities.

The general trend of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is irresistible, and the trend of world development and progress is mighty.

As long as the big article of "giving full play to its own strengths and meeting the needs of the country" is done well, Hong Kong will surely be able to play a greater role in the great changes unseen in a century, and make greater achievements in the new journey of building a modern and powerful country.

Someone asked, what do you think about the realization of good governance and good governance in Hong Kong?

I want to say that the opportunities are unprecedented, but there must be a historical initiative to ride on the momentum and seek progress while maintaining stability.

Since last year, many people have expressed emotion that Hong Kong has changed and the road ahead is wider. Everyone is full of enthusiasm and looks forward to a new situation of good governance and good governance. This is in line with the general logic of historical development.

However, it should also be noted that good governance and good governance is a process. To realize this vision, there are still some systems and mechanisms that need to be established and improved, and many deep-seated contradictions and problems that need to be resolved.

It should also be seen that "the tree wants to be quiet but the wind does not stop", there are always some forces that will not give up.

If you slack off thinking that you can "lie down and win", or detour when you encounter a problem, you will only lose the passion for struggle and the courage to change.

What's more, good governance and good governance depend not only on the active actions of the SAR's governance team, but also on the joint efforts of all sectors of society.

The most important thing right now is to fight the epidemic together and overcome the difficulties together.

I believe that as long as everyone joins hands to overcome difficulties, the family of Hong Kong will continue to improve and live up to expectations.

Friends and citizens!

In his New Year's message this year, President Xi Jinping said affectionately, "The motherland has always cared about the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macau. Only with solidarity and joint efforts can 'one country, two systems' achieve stability and long-term success."

The Liaison Office is at the foot of the Lion Rock with the vast number of Hong Kong compatriots, and it is our duty to work together with you all.

In the new year, we will perform our duties with due diligence and loyalty, continue to promote the implementation of the central government's overall governance, continue to firmly support the SAR government in its governance in accordance with the law, continue to listen extensively to the voices of the public, continue to be a good bridge between Hong Kong and the mainland, and connect with the vast majority of Hong Kong. Compatriots, let's work together to promote the Hong Kong family to a better future!

I wish you all good health in the Year of the Tiger, all your wishes come true, and the tiger will thrive!

Thanks!
