The municipality of Herrsching is a burned child, Mayor Christian Schiller said on Monday.

He spoke of flood situations, the extent of which had not been expected.

In 2016, for example, when the Fendlbach flooded Hechendorfer Straße and the water pressed against the basement windows of the secondary school.

After the catastrophe in the Ahr valley, nothing seems impossible.

On Monday, the municipal councils presented the results of a project study on the introduction of fall water risk management in the Ammersee municipality, a rough analysis that shows problem areas.

Herrsching

how topographically demanding the terrain around Herrsching and its districts is and from where water could be expected everywhere.

The sensors could be used to specifically warn specific areas.

Junginger outlined the warnings of the German weather service as "over-alert".

As a precaution, they come too often and are hardly noticed.

"We want to warn more precisely," says Junginger.

With the early warning system, suggestions for temporary measures would be made to reduce damage.

For example, sealing off individual areas before flood water could penetrate.

In 2016, Schiller recalled, it would have been helpful for the secondary school to have been alerted early. When the water was already pressing against the basement windows, the school was evacuated in a hurry. With advance notice there would have been more time. Since that time, all those responsible have been alarmed. In order to be prepared in an emergency, the fire brigade will soon be equipped with mobile loudspeaker systems, for example, he said. And flash flood risk management could become part of a community app that is currently being developed.

In this context, Thomas Bader (CSU) pointed out that in Breitbrunn a Bachim pipe flows through the town. He could not find any reference to this in the maps that Junginger cited in his project study. He gratefully accepted the tip and assured that the system could be adapted at any time.

First of all, however, it is about funding for the hazard maps.

The application has been made.

As soon as the decision is available, according to Melanie Faude from the building authority, the mapping will be commissioned.

The costs for this are estimated at 100,000 euros, the community share would be 25,000 euros.

As soon as these are available, the municipal council must decide whether the early warning system presented by Junginger should be tailored to Herrsching or whether another solution should be preferred.

The Spekter system would cost the municipality about 50,000 euros plus annual operating costs of 4,750 euros.

The financial resources could be made available for 2023, according to Faude.
