The well-known chat programs on the Internet have been promoting large protests in Berlin against the Corona policy for weeks.
Current occasion: the debate in the Bundestag on compulsory vaccination.
Berlin – More than a thousand people demonstrated against mandatory corona vaccination at the same time as the debate in the Bundestag in Berlin. They gathered on Wednesday afternoon in various places outside the police cordons around the Reichstag building in the government district. The police expected other participants in the course of the afternoon. Up to ten thousand people were expected after the many calls on the Internet. Almost all of the rallies were not registered. 1,600 police officers were deployed, some of them from other federal states.
Around 2 p.m., the police spoke of around 600 demonstrators in the Lustgarten area near the Berlin Cathedral and 300 other people on Unter den Linden street.
There, the police broke up a meeting for disregarding the Corona rules.
Many participants did not wear face masks.
A police spokeswoman said some other smaller groups would roam the streets of the government district.
"There's a lot of movement in there."
The banners of the demonstrators read, for example: "The Basic Law is the red line". According to the police, there were scuffles in several places because demonstrators pushed against the barriers or refused to follow instructions. The security forces spoke of four provisional arrests. In some places, several dozen counter-demonstrators had gathered. "Drosten Ultras" was on a poster and "Echsit for Schurbel".
The area around the Reichstag building was cordoned off so extensively that there was no access to the Brandenburg Gate either.
There were several water cannons nearby.
The federal police were present at the train stations and observed the situation.
Police officers with dogs and on horses as well as police cars in the Tiergarten could also be seen.
The police had announced that they would pay attention to the obligation to wear corona masks and address the demonstrators.
Unregistered events should be checked and, if necessary, dissolved.

Because of the big debate in the Bundestag on the corona vaccination requirement, numerous opponents of the corona laws from many parts of Germany had called for protests and demonstrations in Berlin on the Internet.
In an orientation debate, the Bundestag discussed Corona and compulsory vaccination.
A vote was also planned on various motions by groups of deputies without parliamentary group specifications: against compulsory vaccination, for compulsory vaccination for everyone over 18 and for compulsory vaccination for everyone over 50. dpa
