After excitement about statements by the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, it announced the implementation of facility-related corona vaccination.

The district announced on Wednesday that they "did not want to implement this".

“This is not even legally possible.

The district will not go it alone.” In response to inquiries, the district only referred to problems with implementation.

Greifswald - district spokesman Achim Froitzheim said on Tuesday that the district would not be able to enforce the compulsory vaccination planned for mid-March for employees of nursing homes and hospitals, for example.

He referred to the corona-related burden on the health department and parts of the administration.

"We can therefore not fulfill the control and enforcement of this facility-related vaccination requirement."

With a view to the regulation decided in December, there are still too many unanswered questions, the district has now announced.

"The facility-related obligation to vaccinate would again mean considerable additional work for the district, which was already under extreme pressure in the corona pandemic, and which would be very difficult to achieve." The district is therefore waiting for specific instructions for implementation that are still outstanding.

The federal government transfers extensive tasks to the health authorities: the collection and management of data records, the issuing of bans on activities or entry and the implementation of fine procedures for the operators of the facilities.

In addition, the health authorities should check vaccination exemptions.

District administrator Michael Sack (CDU), once a candidate for the post of prime minister in the north-east, simply said in the district’s announcement on Wednesday: “To deal with the pandemic, we continue to support all efforts to achieve a high vaccination rate.

The more people vaccinated, facility-based or not, the better.”

The health authorities of the other districts in the north-east had also stated in a letter to Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) that they did not see themselves in a position to check the vaccination requirement for employees in hospitals, medical practices, facilities for the disabled and care.
