Significantly fewer people than expected initially took part in the announced demonstrations against compulsory corona vaccination in the Berlin government district on Wednesday.

A total of more than a thousand demonstrators gathered in the afternoon at various locations outside the police cordons around the Reichstag building.

Berlin – At around 2:00 p.m., the police spoke of around 600 people in the Lustgarten area near the Berlin Cathedral and 300 other demonstrators on Unter den Linden street.

There, the police broke up a larger gathering for disregarding the Corona rules.

Some other smaller groups would march through the streets of the government district, it said.

"There's a lot of movement in there," said a police spokeswoman.

Up to ten thousand demonstrators were expected after the many calls on the Internet.

Almost all of the rallies were not registered.

The banners of the demonstrators read, for example: "The Basic Law is the red line".

According to the police, there were scuffles in several places because demonstrators pushed against the barriers or refused to follow instructions.

The police initially spoke of four provisional arrests.

1600 police officers were on duty.

The area around the Reichstag building was cordoned off over a large area.

There was also no access to the Brandenburg Gate.
