– A bypass, a tunnel or rather no new road at all?

How the municipality of Waakirchen wants to tackle its traffic problem is again completely open.

Almost two years after the local elections, the newly composed municipal council should finally show its colors.

Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG) wants to put the question on the agenda at the municipal council meeting on Tuesday, February 8th, maybe not until Tuesday, March 8th.

"The municipal council has to say where it wants to go," says Kerkel.

He doesn't dare make a prediction: "It's going to be exciting."

It stays with the prioritization

The mayor clarified one thing in advance with the Rosenheim State Building Authority: The change of government in Berlin will initially not change the general conditions.

"What is promised is also kept," says Kerkel.

This means that the prioritization of a bypass for Waakirchen, as promised in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan (BVWP) 2030, remains in place.

Because the busy B 472 runs through the middle of the town, the federal government wants to provide relief. However, the former municipal council, led by Mayor Sepp Hartl (FWG), did not agree with the simple southern bypass outlined in the BVWP for 7.67 million euros .

After many discussions and with the support of specialist planner Helmuth Ammerl, shortly before the local elections the local council recommended a southern bypass that would almost completely disappear into the ground (83,

City council needs to change course

It is still unclear whether and how the new municipal council, which has been in office since May 2020, wants to follow up on this decision.

In the summer of 2021, a newly founded mobility committee met for the first time, behind closed doors.

As reported, the expert Ammerl explains the previous considerations to the committee, and the citizens' movement B 472 and BI Verkehr also explained their very contrary positions.

While the citizens' movement considers the construction of additional roads to be out of date in view of the changing mobility, the BI defends itself against a zero solution and has drafted a route proposal itself.

Positions have changed

Also because of Corona, the community has not made any progress with the topic since then.

Kerkel announced that he would soon convene another meeting of the mobility committee.

This will be followed by the public consultation in February or March.

There is a fundamental decision to be made.

Kerkel believes that it is conceivable that the decision to break away from all preliminary planning and to develop completely new concepts for the location is conceivable: “The orientation and ways of thinking have changed a lot in the municipal council.”
