– The next major construction site in Freising is imminent: General-von-Stein-Straße will be expanded from March, reports the press office of the start.

The first preparations will start next week: starting next Monday, January 31, three large trees will have to be felled on General-von-Stein-Strasse opposite the junction with Weinmiller-Strasse.

Christl Steinhart, press spokeswoman for the city, explains: "The unfortunately unavoidable removal of the plane trees marks the start of the expansion of General-von-Stein-Straße, as decided in March 2021 by the planning committee for the development of the Steinpark schools. "

Two field maples as a replacement

"The road expansion is necessary for the construction of a barrier-free bus stop," explains Steinhart. In addition, a central island is to be installed slightly offset in the direction of Asamstraße as a crossing aid and to reduce speed. For the realization, the southern lane of General-von-Stein-Straße has to be moved slightly into the existing tree population, so that three trees cannot be preserved. After the road construction, two field maples will be planted, as discussed and decided in committee. "Unfortunately, a replacement planting for the third tree is also not possible, as otherwise the accessibility of the bus stop would no longer be guaranteed."

According to the city, the actual road expansion with a total cost of around 1.4 million euros is expected to begin at the end of February and be completed by the end of August 2022.

Steinhart: "In the course of this work, a bus lane with a school bus stop and the eastern sidewalk of Weinmiller-Straße along the school building will also be laid in front of the northern area of ​​the school premises."

According to the city, the expansion of General-von-Stein-Strasse between Lankesberg and Asamstrasse will require a full closure in sections between the residential streets, and through traffic will be diverted.
