Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko criticized attempts by Western countries to impose new sanctions on his country under the pretext of the situation in Ukraine.
"Western allegations of Russian aggression against Ukraine exist only in the feverish imagination of our partners in the West," Grushko said in statements to reporters, reported by TASS today, noting that their dreams of imposing sanctions on Moscow have nothing to do with real politics.
On the other hand, Grushko indicated that Moscow had received some verbal responses to its security proposals, and said: "We have already received some verbal answers to our questions so far... But at the beginning we want to know the reason for not accepting our proposals."
Russia had held security talks with America in Geneva on the tenth of this month on the security guarantees it had proposed, and requested written answers about them.
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized Western allegations against Russia, describing them as "empty and baseless" and as a ploy to escalate tensions.
Peskov reiterated that Russia poses absolutely no threat to anyone, warning that attempts to use military force to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine will have dire consequences.
