The Turkish president said in an interview with the local media that the visit "will open a new page in Turkish-Israeli relations" • Jerusalem has not yet addressed the issue

President Herzog is expected to visit Ankara and meet with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan "in early February", the local media in Turkey reported this evening (Wednesday).

"Herzog's visit is expected to open a new page in the relationship," the Turkish daily Sabah reported, quoting Erdogan in an earlier interview with local television.

The summit comes after positive signals were recently transmitted between the countries after years of disconnection in bilateral relations.

As of this writing, Jerusalem has not addressed the issue.

Last week, Erdogan said that he was working to develop ties with Israel, and that President Yitzhak Herzog might pay a visit to Turkey in the near future.

"We are in talks with our Israeli partners and President Herzog may visit Turkey in the near future," the Turkish president was quoted as saying by the state news agency Andulo.

"We intend to bring about positive developments for cooperation with Israel in the economic field in the Mediterranean," the Turkish president added.

It should be noted that Erdogan has spoken with Herzog three times in the six months that have passed since taking office as president.

In the first conversation, Erdogan congratulated him on choosing him.

The second conversation took place as part of the efforts to release the Oknin couple who were arrested in vain in Turkey.

Another conversation took place about two weeks ago, when Erdogan called to comfort the president over the death of his mother, Mrs. Ora Herzog.

In addition, Aduran sent Herzog a letter of condolence.
