A call for projects has been launched to start the reconstruction of this district in the north-east of Chartres which is home to many social housing

To the north-east of Chartres, the Madeleine district, with its large complexes from the 70s and 80s that house more than 1,800 social housing units, its pavilions and its vast commercial area, is set for a profound transformation.

“This is the last district of Chartres which we had not yet touched.

We must try to bring modernity back to it, ”observes Mayor Jean-Pierre Gorges.

The operation will start with the development of a free plot of one hectare, at the intersection of avenue Joseph-Pichard and avenue des Sablons.

This green space, part of which will be kept, should accommodate the construction of 120 housing units and approximately 2,000 m2 of shops "so that there is real life and that people do not go to supermarkets".

A call for projects has been launched to design the appearance of this future "inhabited mall", which will preserve views of the cathedral.

"People are now eager for it to start," adds the mayor.

A first tower of 49 apartments will fall in 2023, and others will follow.

Finally, it is envisaged, in the longer term, to relocate the commercial area of 25 ha which adjoins the housing.

Carrefour, Picard, But, Leroy Merlin and other supermarkets should one day migrate to the northeast plateau, but it is not for tomorrow since the project, which has already experienced a number of setbacks, is not yet there. only at its beginnings.
