India marked the 73rd anniversary of Republic Day today amid tight security.
The capital, New Delhi, witnessed a military and folkloric parade on the occasion, which was attended by senior officials and a number of political figures and other events.
Celebrations spread throughout most of the Indian subcontinent, where the Indian flag was raised in all states, and ceremonies were held in honor of a number of veterans who participated in the country's independence.
India gained independence from British colonialism in 1947 and was declared a republic on January 26, 1950.
