Why build a superyacht that only moves on water when you can create one that also flies?

Rome-based design company Lazzarini Design Studio has come up with a new concept called Air Yacht that has the ability to "sail in the sky" and on the ocean.

Models of the Air Yacht were released earlier this month.

And the futuristic design looks as wacky as it sounds.

The massive structure, built from carbon fiber, will be equipped with two airships filled with compressed helium.

This will allow it to cross the skies at 60 knots for more than 48 hours "without emissions", according to the design team.

In addition to its apparent flight capabilities, the Air Yacht has also been designed to navigate "quietly" on the water at an estimated speed of five knots thanks to its "inflatable cellars", which fill with air as water approaches, allowing let the vehicle float.

"The Air-Yacht is pushed down by the rotation of the engines and can stay in the water through a helium depressurization and ballast anchoring system," Lazzarini said.

With a volume of 400,000 cubic meters of helium between them, the identical airships are powered by eight counter-rotating motors powered by ultralight batteries and solar panels.

In addition to keeping the vessel in the air and on the water when needed, the floating structures will also house a total of 10 passenger suites.

The two are connected to the central hull via four separate bridges, which passengers can cross on foot to move between the different areas on board.

The master suite is located in the main hull, which measures around 79 meters, next to a spacious living room with dining area and a swimming pool.

Conceived as a potential approach to "sustainable air transport", it is aimed at a private owner rather than "public transport or tourism purposes".

Will it be on the market soon?

While Air Yacht is still in the early stages of the design process, a prototype will be launched this year.

Lazzarini hopes the project, which he says has already attracted a lot of interest, can offer a glimpse of what the future of private, sustainable travel could look like.

However, any potential buyer will need to have very extensive funds.

Its current estimated price is around 550 million euros (about US $ 621 million).

If a buyer is found, Lazzarini estimates it would take about five years to build the Air Yacht and collect the helium needed for the project.

"We are currently looking for investors and partners capable of financing the project to speed up the process," a spokesperson for Lazzarini told CNN Travel.

While it will likely be a while before we see the superyacht taking to the waters, or even the skies, the studio is currently working with a private investor to design a prototype 24-meter model, which is scheduled to take off later this year. anus.

Air Yacht's unveiling comes months after the design studio revealed renderings of Shape, a 69-meter concept yacht with a "huge hole" in the middle.

Meanwhile, Italian design studio SkyStyle recently released designs for Unique 71, an innovative superyacht concept with a pointed bow and glass-wrapped sky lounge.
