First he killed four family members, including two minors aged 15 and 11, and then the perpetrator of the massacre that took place in an apartment in via Riesi in Licata shot himself. The man, Angelo Tardino, 48, who is in very serious condition, shot his brother, sister-in-law and two nephews to death before escaping.
Hunted by the carabinieri he decided to take his own life in a street far from the site of the massacre, in the Safarello district, where he was later found still breathing and rushed to the hospital in Caltanissetta.
According to an initial reconstruction by the carabinieri, based on the testimonies of some neighbors, the massacre would have originated from a family dispute for reasons of interest related to the subdivision of some land where they grow artichokes.
The investigations are coordinated by the Prosecutor of Agrigento Luigi Patronaggio.
Angelo Tardino shot himself while on the phone with the carabinieri.
The killer was tracked down on the phone by investigators, who were now on his trail and tried to convince him to turn himself in.
When the man seemed inclined to surrender and reach the barracks, the military heard a shot on the phone and understood that the fugitive tried to take his own life.
