It's been around a month since a teenager's birthday party in Weilheim escalated: uninvited guests raged in part with a massive desire to destroy, the police arrived with a large contingent.

We visited the family, who are still puzzled as to how this could have happened.

Weilheim – It is quiet in the garden of the corner house.

The small pool next to the terrace shines in a clear blue, the items such as a set of furniture, a small trampoline and shoes that ended up there during the party have long been fished out.

Only the little garden door, which leads to the directly adjacent path to the railway track, is still hanging crookedly on its hinges.

"It was apparently broken open with massive force, I will only fix it in the spring," says father Jens K. (57).

Has the bike already been picked up, which is leaning right next to the gate?

"It doesn't belong to us.

Someone left it as a souvenir,” says Silvana K. (53).

Everything was fine when the parents left

It was supposed to be a small party.

Son Torben wanted to celebrate his 17th birthday with friends and got a storm free from his parents.

"Our older son also celebrated his 18th and 20th birthdays with a house party, so we had no concerns that Torben would do the same," says father Jens.

They had rented a room in Huglfing and cycled there around 9 p.m.

"When we said goodbye, everything was fine."

At the time, the party was still great, says the 17-year-old.

The first visitors were there around 7 p.m., most outside, some inside.

He invited around 30 friends and acquaintances, the neighbors had already been informed by handbill that it could get louder that evening.

"Some neighbors came to us beforehand, wished us luck and said that there would be no trouble with them," says Mother Silvana.

Of course, she would not have thought that her own son would have to call the police.

Demolished the basement ceiling with the hammer

Because around 10:30 p.m. there were suddenly young adults in the house who were not invited and some of whom Torben did not even know.

"Because someone unfortunately left the front door open, I didn't even notice it at first," he says.

He tried to send her away, but she wasn't interested.

That's when the vandalism started: In addition to the objects that were thrown into the pool, the table tennis table in the basement was destroyed, among other things, and someone even started to break the suspended ceiling with a hammer.

Curious: A short time before, the parents had tried unsuccessfully to reach their son by phone.

They then texted their older son, who was supposed to pay attention a little, if everything was ok, and he replied "yes" - because he was referring to himself.

"But he was only on the way there and not even there, we only found out the next day," says Mother Silvana.

The birthday boy himself called the police

In the end, Torben didn't know what to do other than inform the police.

He also shared this with the uninvited guests.

"They then waited once, but when several patrol cars came after about ten minutes, they took off," he says (see box below).

The house must have looked incredible, says Mother Silvana - she only knows the descriptions from the police report.

Dirt everywhere because nobody had cleaned their shoes, mixed with beer, vomit and sometimes also urine because some people had just peed in the house.

Already filed several lawsuits

Her son didn't take any photos because the police officer who took the case was busy taking pictures of the crime scene.

And they are still part of the investigation, because the matter will have an aftermath.

"We have already filed several criminal charges, because there are already many testimonies about the perpetrators," says father Jens.

After all, the damage is estimated at 5000 euros.

Disappointed with the reactions afterwards

What disappointed the parents the most was the reactions afterwards.

While some of Torben's friends tidied up and cleaned for hours in the evening and the next morning so that the house no longer looked like a battlefield when their parents returned, "there was nothing from many of the polluters or their parents, no reaction, for example that they were financially participate in the damage or the like.

To be honest, that left me speechless," says the mother.

For example, a young person who stole a stereo brought it back the next day, but without an apology.

"Where's the decency in that?" she asks herself.

The situation is not easy for Torben in particular because he knows some of the suspects from school.

Father Jens hopes that the perpetrators will be identified and, for example, will be given community service.

"And if someone has shown remorse and apologized, I don't mind dropping the charge," he says.

Final question to Torben whether he will celebrate his 18th birthday again: "Not likely."

wanted witnesses

Anyone who can still make statements about the party, for example parents who have heard news from their children, should contact the Weilheim police on 0881/6400.

The number of suspects continues to rise

It's rare for a party to get out of hand like it did recently in Weilheim, says Boris Netschajew, deputy head of the Weilheim police station.

He did some research and found out that it was around 15 years ago that there was a similar incident in the inspection area - at that time the damage was even 30,000 euros.

That was also the reason why the police were on the spot very quickly after the emergency call and immediately moved in with a large contingent.

"A total of seven police patrols from all the surrounding departments were deployed," says Johannes Erhard, youth officer at the Weilheim police station, who took over the processing.

And it was good that so many forces were on site.

Because many of the party guests had fled after the arrival, Nechaev says that the personal details of many of them could still be taken in the vicinity.

"What you don't record on site is gone," he says.

The investigations in the case are complex.

Numerous witnesses would have to be heard, around 40 to 50 people had been on record in the case so far.

The number of suspects is also steadily increasing.

That's why the investigations will continue for quite a while, says Erhard: "I'm quite busy with it." According to Nechayev, one wants to work particularly carefully, "we owe that to everyone involved in this case".

When the investigation is complete, the file goes to the public prosecutor's office, who must decide whether to close the case for the person concerned, issue a criminal order, or even go to trial.

The sentence could also include whether the person in question has appeared more often, i.e. has a criminal record, or whether they were cooperative in the investigation.

The police cannot and will not give any tips on how to prevent a party like this from escalating: "Parents always have to know for themselves whether they trust their children to do this," says Nechayev.

While social media is spreading party dates much more quickly than they used to, the days of so-called Facebook parties publicly announced to everyone on the internet are long gone.
