Children and staff only had something of the new building for a few weeks: the cath.

Kindergarten at Endbachweg in Poing will remain closed for a longer period of time.

Because of structural damage.

Poing – The demolition and new construction of the Catholic kindergarten on Endbachweg in Poing-Süd cost around 5.5 million euros (according to the contractual agreement, the municipality of Poing pays two thirds and the church one third). So far, however, it has only been in operation for a few weeks: due to structural damage, the building that opened on June 1, 2021 has been closed again since autumn (we reported) - and will probably remain so until September. It was originally intended to be able to reopen the house at the beginning of the year. But: "During the course of expert investigations, indications were found that the substructure of the soil has increased microbiological loads in some cases," says Hendrik Steffens, press spokesman for the ordinariate of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, which is responsible for the building.According to Steffens, water ingress on the roof seal along the north wall and a leaky sanitary facility in the building had caused the floor construction and built-in walls to become damp.

Based on the current expert results, extensive renovation is necessary: dismantling of the floor structure down to the reinforced concrete slab and comprehensive renewal.

This was decided by the church foundation of the parish of St. Michael after consultation with the archbishop's office in Munich (EOM) and the municipality of Poing, says Steffens.

The EOM will provide an amount of around 1.2 million euros for the renovation measures.

This is done through post-financing.

How exactly the damage is regulated is negotiated with the insurer.

As part of these talks, the EOM will also examine possible claims for recourse, according to the spokesman for the professorship.

The exact extent of the damage can only be examined and checked after the floor structure has been dismantled.

In the run-up to the work, "the EOM will initiate a renovation plan and, in coordination with the insurer, has already called in suitable experts to accompany and monitor the renovation work," reports Hendrik Steffens.

Poing: provisional kindergarten in the rectory

The 35 children and the staff have been housed in the Rupert Mayer parish home since autumn, where the necessary conversions to run a kindergarten have been carried out.

According to Poing's pastor Philipp Werner, this in turn means that events and meetings (e.g. of the First Communion and Confirmation groups), which normally take place in the parish hall, have to be outsourced to the neighboring parish church, among other things.

The Catholic kindergarten at Endbachweg has existed since 1969 and is the oldest in the municipality of Poing.

In 2019, the building, whose condition had deteriorated over the years, was demolished and replaced with a new building.

Water damage and problems on the facade had already occurred during the construction phase, which led to the delay in the opening date.

Whether there is a connection with the damage that occurred after the opening in June 2021 still has to be investigated, says Ordinariate spokesman Hendrik Steffens.

However, there is currently no evidence of this.

According to Steffens, the necessary refurbishment measures will be as follows: Clearance and storage of the interior fittings, complete dismantling of the floor structure down to the reinforced concrete floor slab, professional decontamination of the contaminated floor structure and then a renewal of the entire floor structure and restoration of the interior equipment.

The remediation, including microbiological follow-up examinations, should be completed by September.
