Novavax still available in Hesse in February

Two million doses of Novavax are distributed across Germany.

The Impfallianz Hessen clarifies for whom the supposed "dead vaccine" should be used. 

Wiesbaden – The Corona* vaccine “Nuvaxovid” from Novavax*, which has been long awaited by many vaccine skeptics, is scheduled to arrive in Hesse* in February, as the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Wednesday (January 26th, 2022). This is often mistakenly referred to as an "inactivated vaccine" and is considered by some to be safer than other manufacturers' vector and mRNA vaccines. In fact, it is not an inactivated vaccine, as is the case with vaccines against tetanus, whooping cough or diphtheria. It is a protein-based vaccine, as the US company Novavax writes on its website.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) wrote on Twitter at the request of a doctor not to describe the Novavax vaccine as a dead vaccine: "That's true.

But because so many unvaccinated people only want dead vaccines, for whatever reason, Novavax, which will be available soon, will be referred to as such.

Still, some seem to insist on vaccination with Novavax.

Corona vaccination in Hesse: Novavax is only available for special vaccinations

Of the two million doses of Novavax, which according to the ministry are to be delivered throughout Germany from February 21, 2022, 130,000 to 140,000 doses are in Hesse - not a large number in relation to the number of vaccinations required.

The vaccination alliance therefore exchanged information on the distribution of the first batch of the Novavax vaccine, among other things, according to the ministry's announcement.

“In view of this initially rather manageable number, distributing small quantities to all medical practices does not make sense. That is why we have agreed to initially only make Novavax available to the health authorities who can organize special vaccination appointments and local distribution," said the Hessian Minister of Health, Kai Klose (Greens). "The staff covered by the facility-related vaccination obligation should then receive vaccination offers with this vaccine as a matter of priority." Those interested in vaccination must register in advance for a vaccination appointment*.

The ministry also reports that the ministers as well as the doctors and pharmacists are making an urgent appeal to the citizens of Hesse to take advantage of a vaccination offer: "Three vaccinations are the best protection - against an infection with Omikron and against a severe course in the event of an infection Illness.

So take the chance, get your booster or your first vaccination now, if you haven't already done so," said Klose on behalf of the Allianz members.
