On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day: The Lobby for Combating Anti-Semitism and BDS Gathered in the Knesset | Israel Today

2022-01-26T11:27:50.420Z

Representatives of organizations such as Yad Vashem and the Jewish Agency attended the conference, which was organized by MKs Shikli, Yabarkan and Akunis.

MKs Amichai Shikli (right), Gadi Yabarkan and Ofir Akunis (Likud) convened this morning (Wednesday) for the second time the lobby for the fight against delegitimization and boycott movements on Israel in the Knesset, and this time on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which will take place tomorrow.

The conference was attended by representatives of many organizations, including the Jewish Agency, Yad Vashem, the Institute for Holocaust Studies at Bar Ilan University, the Institute for Jewish People's Policy and the Ministry of Diaspora.

The purpose of the lobby is for the Knesset of Israel to be an enterprising force, prevent conceptual distortions and act to the best of its ability to thwart the activities of BDS organizations.

The goal is for the Knesset to be a leading partner in the struggle against attempts to undermine the right of the State of Israel to exist as a Jewish and democratic state.

"Even today, growing parts of the West are waging a conscious struggle against the State of Israel. As leaders, we have a moral obligation to say 'so far,'" the three said.

MK Shikli said: "The use of the memory of the Holocaust against the Jewish state is a growing phenomenon, and is a record of moral decline.

The purpose of the conference is to flood the problem and find ways to deal with it. "

MK Akunis added: "International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a wake-up call for the international community - ugly anti-Semitism is once again raising its head, even in the Western world, and in recent years has been accompanied by boycott initiatives against Israel, which is a clear expression of modern anti-Semitism.

"Recent history has taught us that what begins with boycotts, continues with the burning of books, the burning of synagogues - and ends with the burning of human beings."

The two were joined by MK Yevkarn, who said: "As a Jewish child growing up in the Diaspora, I am well aware of the severe anti-Semitism that Jews experience for being Jews only.

When we talk about the boycott against Israel, we must remember history, even before the Jewish people rose from the dust and built their state in the Land of Israel.

"Even today, many parts of the West are waging a conscious struggle against the State of Israel, and this lobby is our answer."
