I said goodbye to my home in Mevaseret Zion near Jerusalem and moved to Gush Dan • Suddenly all my reference to the issue of snow has changed • In my current place of residence there is no fear of snow. It's raining and strong winds are blowing - but this is not the freezing cold of Jerusalem

Last night, for the first time in decades, I saw through the TV screen the snowflakes falling on the mountains around Jerusalem and in its neighborhoods.

It was a very strange sight to me, because since childhood - when the snow covered the city, I used to go out of my house and wander the streets that were covered in white.

Rolling on the white carpet in Sucker Garden, throwing snowballs at other teens and capturing this special spectacle with cameras of yesteryear, in the days when we never even imagined a day would come when we would capture what was happening directly from the cell phone.

Last week, after 32 years, I said goodbye to my home in Mevaseret Zion near Jerusalem and moved to Gush Dan.

Suddenly my whole reference to the subject of snow changed.

When I lived in Jerusalem, and then in Mevaseret, whenever the forecaster announced that snow was expected - I was worried, because I remembered the snow of 2013, where we were immersed for a week without electricity and without any other means of heating the house.

The snow also caused great damage to our private garden.

This week, when the forecaster announced that it would snow, I was very calm and peaceful, because in my current place of residence there is no fear of snow.

It's raining and strong winds are blowing - but this is not the freezing cold of Jerusalem.

I carry with me many fond memories of the snow in Jerusalem, where I was born and raised.

When I was 6, we lived in the Tel Arza neighborhood in the north of Jerusalem, and when the neighborhood was painted white, I went with my father and my two older brothers to build a snowman.

Carrots are tucked in his mouth - and my father's hat on his head.

In the background were the roars of the lion, who also suffered from the cold in the cage at the Biblical Zoo, which was near the neighborhood. A few years later we used to walk in the snow to Jaffa Street, the main street of Jerusalem, Essential needs for stores.

During military service in the Paratroopers Brigade, we arrived in Jerusalem before the Six Day War when the city was still divided, to capture the urban line.

In those days Jerusalem was painted white, and we had a wonderful experience - to look out from our outposts in the Tower of David at the walls of the Old City, which were inside Jordan, and to see the soldiers of the Jordanian Legion also playing in the snow.

Were we wrong?
