Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, announced that Moscow had requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on the attacks launched by the terrorist organization ISIS in northeastern Syria.
Russia Today quoted Polyansky as saying in a statement to reporters: “We are deeply concerned about the reports regarding the recent ISIS attacks in northeastern Syria and the general situation in that part of the country,” noting that a meeting had been requested on Thursday.
He added that Moscow requested a separate meeting, during which it is expected to listen to the report of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the head of the Organization's Counter-Terrorism Department, Vladimir Voronkov, and other representatives of the United Nations Secretariat on the latest developments in northeastern Syria.
