The headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet announced today the launch of major naval exercises with the participation of more than 20 warships, including frigates, patrol ships, boats, missile-carrying and anti-submarine ships dedicated to landing forces and combating mines.
TASS quoted the fleet's media office as saying in a statement that the ships' crews will train in the waters of the Black Sea to coordinate communication among themselves, conduct safe maneuvers in areas of intense navigation, and organize air defense at sea.
The statement indicated that the armed forces will conduct a series of naval exercises and maneuvers on the measures taken by the navy and air force to protect Russia's national interests in the global ocean and confront Russia's military threats from the seas and oceans.
The statement indicated that the exercises will cover the seas adjacent to the Russian territory and operationally important areas in the global ocean, as well as separate exercises in the Mediterranean, North Sea and Sea of Okhotsk in the Northeast Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
The comprehensive exercises will include more than 140 warships and support ships, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 pieces of military equipment and nearly 10,000 soldiers, according to the statement.
