Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is particularly strict when it comes to corona measures.
That saved many lives, says Prime Minister Schwesig.
She wants to be careful.
Schwerin – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has defended her corona policy in the state parliament, which is strict in comparison to the rest of the country. In relation to the number of inhabitants, the federal state has so far had fewer fatalities than in many other federal states, although the risks in the north-east with the oldest population in the country are particularly high, Schwesig said in a government statement on Wednesday.
According to her, 100 fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants have been counted in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (as of January 25).
"This is the fourth lowest value in Germany," said Schwesig, citing the statistics portal Statista.
The national average is 141. In the other eastern federal states there are significantly more fatalities: in Saxony 341 per 100,000 inhabitants, in Thuringia 300, in Saxony-Anhalt 208 and in Brandenburg 196.
The corona measures in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have repeatedly been noticed as particularly strict in a comparison of the federal states.
After protests from culture, relaxation was decided for the area on Tuesday, which has long been normal in neighboring federal states such as Hamburg and Berlin.
Despite the current decline in the number of Covid patients in the hospitals and in the intensive care units in MV, the head of government continued to promote a cautious corona policy.
Unfortunately, with a view to Omikron, it is not clear how long this will last.

Schwesig once again appealed to be vaccinated.
Of those over 60 who are particularly at risk, around 67,000 in the country are still not vaccinated, she said.
That is more than the city of Neubrandenburg has inhabitants.
It is positive that a query at the schools reported that 3000 students wanted to be vaccinated there during mobile campaigns.
