The EU Commission is considering reclassifying nuclear power and gas as green energy.
But EU Financial Markets Commissioner Mairead McGuinness sees only “limited leeway” here.
Berlin - EU Financial Markets Commissioner Mairead McGuinness excludes a fundamental revision of the EU classifications* for sustainable energy.
At one point or another, the proposal could be improved and some objections could be taken into account, McGuinness told the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ, Wednesday edition).
"But we actually only have limited leeway." There is both criticism and approval of the classification of nuclear power and gas as sustainable.
Nuclear power: EU classification has major impact on financial sector
The taxonomy is intended to give investors and banks a guide as to which technology is to be classified as sustainable.
It is therefore of great importance for the financial industry as well as for Germany as a whole, since more and more investors only want to invest in green technologies.
The Commission is currently examining the comments from the States.
For example, Germany criticizes* the classification of Atom as sustainable, while France supports it.
The taxonomy regulation is then to be published, according to McGuinness this is planned for February 2nd.
