For the first time - the next Fire and Rescue Commissioner will be appointed from within the organization.

The committee for finding candidates set up by the director general of the Ministry of Internal Security, Tomer Lotan, met this morning (Wednesday) and decided to keep the commander of the Northern District in the Tafser Fire Department, Nizar Fares, Dan District Commander Tafser Ronen Makhtayev and Central District Commander Tafser Eyal Kaspi.

The process of selecting the next fire commissioner is coming to a close and in the coming days the established locating committee will forward to the Minister of Internal Security, Amar Bar-Lev, its recommendations regarding one of the three candidates who reached the final stage: Tafser Nizar Fares, Tafser Eyal Caspi and Tafser Ronen Makhtayb.

Bar-Lev and the top officials of the Ministry of Internal Security greatly appreciate the performance of the current commissioner, Major-General Dedi Simchi, and the organizational changes he led in the formation, which was considered battered when it was established after the Carmel disaster.

Like the police, so in the fire brigades in recent years the resentment among firefighters has increased that the former fire brigade commissioners were from the IDF, police and the GSS and not one of their own.
