The meetings of the eighth session of the Syrian-Belarus Joint Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation began in Belarus today, in the presence of the delegations of the two countries.
The Syrian side is headed by the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Suhail Abdul Latif, and by Dmitriy Bantos, head of the State Committee for Military Industries, from Belarus.
At the beginning of the opening session, Bantos affirmed the Belarusian government's aspiration to develop relations with Syria in various fields, expressing his country's pride in the friendly relations between the two countries, which are based on mutual respect.
He said that Belarus considers Syria a basic and reliable partner and has a lot of respect and love for the friendly Syrian people, expressing his hope that the current session of the joint committee will accomplish the required tasks for the benefit of the two friendly peoples and countries.
In turn, Eng. Abdul Latif noted the close historical friendship relations between Syria and Belarus, which were translated by visits on all levels from both sides and framed by the signing of a trade, economic and technical cooperation agreement since 1998.
He said that Belarus has many elements that make it an important partner for Syria in the reconstruction phase, especially in light of the distinguished political relations and common interests, referring to the investment opportunities available in Syria, especially after the issuance of the advanced investment law No. 18 of 2021.
Minister Abdel Latif expressed hope that the current talks would achieve all the desired results and that all the agreements that would be reached would be translated into reality.
The opening session was attended by members of the Syrian Embassy in Belarus and the Belarusian Embassy in Damascus.
