From Éric Zemmour who wants to abolish inheritance tax to Emmanuel Macron who wants to lighten it for the most modest, via Valérie Pécresse who wants to exempt it for 95% of French people and Jean-Luc Mélenchon who pleads for a maximum inheritance of 12 million euros, each has made its own proposal.

Between 10% and 25% of French people pay inheritance tax, according to the Economic Analysis Council.

The median inheritance (which divides the population into two equal parts) amounts to around 70,000 euros, again according to the CAE.

But the most surprising is the share of French people who are opposed to the taxation of inheritances from wealthy parents who have worked all their lives: 79%!

Unexpected in a country where, however, egalitarian passion predominates.

And this rate only drops by 10 points if the parents have inherited.
