There are 59 new members of the Legislative Council this year, of which 51 were registered as ex-officio members earlier. The Candidates Eligibility Committee published a gazette today (26th) to confirm that their registration is valid.

In addition, Leung Chi Cheung and Zhang Huafeng, who were outgoing members, were successfully registered as members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference as ex-officio members of the fifth constituency.

Li Guozhang, who stepped down as the chairman of the University Council of Hong Kong, was added as a member of the Basic Law Committee in August last year.

The ex officio election committee chaired by the president of the University of Hong Kong was replaced by the new chairman of the school committee, Wang Peishi.

After the update is completed, the number of Election Committee members will increase to 1,463.

It is worth noting that the IAAC responsible for confirming the qualifications of the election committee is currently not full. As one of the three official members, Hsu Ying-wai, the Secretary for Home Affairs, was unable to resume his post due to the incident of Hong Weimin.

The government stated that in order to ensure that the new registration election committee can exercise the right to nominate during the nomination period for the chief executive election in February, it believes that the qualification review work should not be delayed because of Xu Yingwei, so the remaining six people review the applications received and make a ruling.

The 1,500-member Election Committee has a total of 377 ex officio members, and all 90 members of the Legislative Council can be registered as ex officio members.

For other re-elected members, because they have already registered before the general election, they do not need to submit a new application for registration.

As for the remaining 8 new members who are not registered, they are already election committees themselves, including Chen Yueming of Heung Yee Kuk in the fourth constituency, Lee Ho-yin, Lee Wei-hong, Chan Pei-leung and Tan Yueheng; Di Zhiyuan and Sun Dong who belong to the first constituency. He is the electoral committee of the second sector, and Li Zijing of the New Democratic Party is the electoral committee of the third sector.

Of course, the electoral committee also includes persons with specified positions. In addition to Li Guozhang and Wang Pei-shi, the new registrations include Zhao Jinquan, the president of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, who was registered as the electoral committee for "Architecture, Surveying, Urban Planning and Landscape", and the Hong Kong Island Community Service Foundation Xue Bo. Registered as a member of the social welfare sector.

The Government stated that the Secretary for Home Affairs, Xu Yingwei, is one of the official members of the Council. According to the law, he was appointed in his personal capacity as an official and reported to the Central People's Government.
