Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was surprised by the statements of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the allegations of Russian aggression against Ukraine, saying: How could it be Russian aggression inside our territory.

Today, Zakharova was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying: Blinken discussed Russia's aggression on its borders with his British counterpart Liz Truss.. It turned out that we attacked ourselves.. We are cunningly aggressive within our borders.

Zakharova noted that in recent months, the West has been increasingly accusing Russia of preparing for the "invasion" of Ukraine.

Russia denies all Western allegations, stressing that it moves its soldiers and equipment within its territory. The Kremlin and the Foreign Ministry have repeatedly indicated that the goal of Western narratives about Russian “aggression” is to build a NATO assembly near the Russian border.

Matvienko: The West is waging a real media war with misinformation against Russia

In turn, the President of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, warned that the continuous attempts by the West contribute to destabilizing the situation in a number of countries neighboring Russia.

"We see that the year began with very difficult events in the international arena, and the world is still going through a period of anxiety and turmoil, and unfortunately, attempts to destabilize a number of neighboring countries do not stop," Russian media quoted Matvienko as saying at a press conference today.

"The West is waging a real media war against Russia, accusing it of allegations of plans to attack Ukraine, despite there being no reasons for that," Matvienko added, noting that the West unleashed a real media war against Russia and the world moved into the era of misinformation.

Matvienko pointed out that Western countries have become hysterical about accusing Russia of preparing an attack on Ukraine without any "reasons or evidence," noting that Ukraine plans to try to solve the Donbass problem by force and organize provocations there on the recommendation of the West in order to hold Russia responsible for this.

Matvienko said Russia had not yet received an adequate response to its proposed security guarantees, a ban on NATO's eastward expansion, and refused to allow Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO, saying that "negotiations are going slowly and hard."

Russia has repeatedly denied having any plans to invade Ukraine, blaming the West for the current escalation and for supplying arms to extremist elements in Ukraine.
