The Omicron wave is also rolling over numerous neighboring German countries.

Nevertheless, one of them now wants to lift almost all corona measures.

In terms of incidence, the corona situation in Denmark does not seem relaxed at all - the country counts over 5,000 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. Nevertheless, the German neighbor is planning to lift almost all corona measures on February 1st, as the Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen announced on Wednesday according to

the Kieler Nachrichten

- and thus for the second time after an initial attempt in September 2021. In most places this should masks

are

no longer compulsory and vaccination certificates no longer have to

be presented. Clubs are allowed to reopen and major events can take place without restrictions. In addition, Corona should no longer be classified as a socially critical disease from February 5th.

Denmark wants to lift corona measures - among other things because of Omikron

The government is following the instructions of the responsible commission with the easing. The predominant omicron variant is therefore

less severe on average than previous variants

and

the number of patients in intensive care units or on ventilators is also at a low level despite high incidences

. In addition, Denmark enjoys

a high vaccination rate of more than 80 percent

- more than half of the total population has already had boosters. "We say 'goodbye' to restrictions and 'hello' to the life we knew before Corona," said Fredriksen, who also described the step as a milestone. The willingness to vaccinate has turned out to be a “super weapon”.

However, the obligation to test should remain in place for those entering the country, as well as non-mandatory recommendations for tests and other precautionary measures.

While many Danes will be happy about the easing, there are also critical voices on "Freedom Day".

Trade unions fear that an uninterrupted Omicron wave could result in the loss of many staff responsible for caring for people in need.

The number of infections reaches new highs almost every day - on Tuesday (January 25) the SSI health institute registered 43,719 new infections.
