The "Elphis" storm that hit the country in the last day came to an end this morning (Thursday) - the Meteorological Service announced.

Dr. Amos Porat, director of climate services at the Meteorological Service, reported that the system, which began in Greece, led to large amounts of snow in

the mountains, strong winds and heavy rainfall.

In most places about 20-15 cm of snow was measured, in the high neighborhoods about 25 cm. In Gush Etzion the amounts of snow were similar, and in Samaria the amounts were much smaller and reached only a few centimeters. In the northern Golan and Hermon it dropped 40-20 cm. Of snow.

On Mount Hermon, a layer of snow of about 70 cm was piled up. In the Galilee, the amounts of snow were smaller, reaching 10-5 cm at the peaks.

The Meteorological Service noted that an event of 15-10 cm or more in Jerusalem occurs once every few years on average. Last year, after a break of six years, about 10 cm of snow fell, so the current event exceeds it.

A similar event to the current one was on 19 to 20 February 2015 and a much more significant event was in December 2013.
