A house is to be built on Berliner Weg in Geretsried.

To do this, 42 trees must be felled.

An expert certified them "lack of vitality".

Geretsried – There is usually not much to say about a planning application for an ordinary single-family home.

But now the building and environment committee was dealing with a project that needed clarification.

The reason: 42 trees had to be felled for the new building at Berliner Weg 58.

There is a "lush stock of trees" on the site, explained Inken Domany from the city's Transport and Environment Department at the meeting.

"It hasn't been used for a long time."

The project developer is planning a single-family house in timber construction including a photovoltaic system, next to it a garage, explained the head of the building department, Christian Müller.

"A bunch of cars" are already parked in the back of the property.

A workshop is also planned there as an addition to a nearby car dealership on Sudetenstrasse.

The house is considered to be the manager's apartment.

It corresponds to the specifications of the development plan, only with a slightly higher floor and a slightly lower roof pitch.

Experts checked the stock of trees: There is a reason for felling for 42 trees

An inspection with the environmental agency showed that there are mainly old beech trees on the property.

"The vitality of beech trees is usually not very good at that age," explained Domany.

She suggested having them checked by a tree surveyor.

The cooperation was "successful because the owner took care of it in good time," praised the environmental officer.

Domany presented the results in the form of a spreadsheet listing each of the 54 trees on the property.

For 42 there is a reason to fall, twelve are to be obtained.

"The property will be bare," Domany pointed out.

18 of the trees would fall under the Tree Protection Ordinance.

In an area where young trees would already be growing, more could be planted.

"More trees will be planted," emphasized the town hall employee.

Volker Witte, city councilor for the Greens and consultant for the environment, climate protection and integration, accepted the approach with reluctance.

Group colleague Martina Raschke probed why trees outside the construction window also have to be felled.

"The question is, do you conserve a tree now that might fall in five years," Domany explained.

It is better to plant new ones now and thus ensure traffic safety.

Mayor Michael Müller ended the following discussion about the entrance, type of operation and surface water.

"We give the municipal agreement and do not also do planning and construction supervision," says the head of the town hall.

The decision was unanimous.
