A fatal traffic accident occurred in Ha Village, Yuen Long. At 6:35 am today (27th), it was reported that two outsourced garbage trucks and environmental protection trucks from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department were driving in sequence along Tin Ha Road towards Lau Fau Shan. When approaching a light position opposite Ha Tsuen, at the bus stop, passers-by found an elderly woman caught under the bus and waved to the driver of the environmental protection truck to stop.
The 85-year-old female victim was seriously injured and lay down on the left rear wheel of the car, leaving behind a lot of blood.
As for the white garbage truck ahead, it has left, and was notified to stop about 10 meters away after the incident.
The firefighters rescued the old woman with tools, but unfortunately the victim died on the spot.
The driver of the environmental protection truck and the garbage truck driver were arrested. The police are investigating the incident. It cannot be ruled out that the old woman was first pushed over by the garbage truck, and then was run into the bottom of the vehicle by the environmental protection truck.
It is understood that the police have inspected the two heavy vehicles involved in the accident and found no obvious signs of collision. In order to clarify the truth of the accident, the police will review the surrounding CCTV footage and appeal to witnesses to provide information.
According to the news at the scene, the deceased went out to buy food and was knocked down about 10 meters away from his home. His son came to the scene to learn about the incident.
The family of the deceased was grief-stricken and knelt down at the scene at about 10 a.m. to worship the road.
The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary by the workers at about 11 am.
Two 56-year-old garbage truck drivers surnamed Su and a 60-year-old environmental bucket truck driver were arrested on suspicion of "dangerous driving causing death".
The Transport Department said at 7:25 a.m. that due to a traffic accident, the entire line from Tian Ha Road to and from Ping Ha Road was still closed.
Affected KMB Route 53, MTR Bus Routes K75A and K75P must be diverted.
Motorists should consider using other roads.
