The Tölz pastor Peter Demmelmair finds clear words about the abuse scandal.

In his sermon on Sunday he speaks in the Tölz parish church about his attitude towards the dark chapter of the church.

Bad Tölz

– Officially, clergymen are not allowed to comment on the current abuse report in the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising.

The Munich press office is solely responsible for this, according to an instruction from the professorship (we reported).

In his sermon in the town parish church on Sunday, however, the Tölz pastor Peter Demmelmair took a relentless position on the subject.

The church people had been expected to do a lot in the past week, the head of the parish association began.

The faithful could not go to church happy and undaunted right now.

The allegations showed, among other things, shameful, disgusting, even helplessness, which made more than sad.

Pastor Demmelmair from Bad Tölz: "heap of broken glass" inside the church

Demmelmair spoke of a "shambles" within the Catholic Church.

He cleared up a misunderstanding that was widespread in certain clerical circles: according to the clergyman, it was not the institution of the church that was “the light of the world”, but Jesus Christ alone.

The pastor repeated from the Gospel of Luke that he had read: He, the Messiah, had come to set the oppressed at liberty and to bring sight to the blind.

The pastor emphasized that the latter does not mean poor eyesight, but that one should look the truth in the eye and call facts by their name.

Church must become even more social, "Jesuan" again.

Demmelmair: Allegations are shameful and disgusting

"Maybe the whole scandal will do something good now," said the city pastor.

Even the first church fathers always said that the church had to constantly renew itself, change itself.

"If the house collapses, the reconstruction is already underway," Demmelmair quoted a proverb and added: "But if the reconstruction doesn't come, then that's it for our church."
