The national soccer team captain Alexandra Popp has to have another knee operation just four days after her comeback.
This was announced by her club VfL Wolfsburg on Thursday.
The 30-year-old midfielder complained of pain in her right knee after playing 45 minutes in Sunday's friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Wolfsburg – An MRI examination then revealed a loose cartilage fragment, which, according to VfL, will be surgically removed this Thursday.
Popp suffered a cartilage tear on his kneecap last year and then had to take a break for eight months.
Now the Wolfsburg are again expecting a downtime of several weeks.
Her big goal is to take part in the European Championships from July 6th to 31st in England.
